Fuck yes, I just got a new vest from bass pro shops. Season in Maine opens April 1st I believe, NH is probably the same. Got my canoe up here just waiting for the ice to melt :smt011

Anyone know how resident or non-res licensees work for military servicemen?

What can I use in my tackle box to keep my crankbaits from rusting to shit? I just pulled out about 11 that are pretty rusty and will need to be replaced.

I've got a fly rod, used it quite a bit but I have no idea how to really use it. My buddies dad is a local guide and he told me the other night he'd take me...but we were both wasted so who knows.

Thats not even a big Penn it was like 80 bucks I think.

For bass its change lures until I find something that works.
For trout its 5" jerkshad gulps on a 3/8 oz leadhead.
Stripers get the same thing for river fishing, just different colors.

Yes

And I was always under the impression Penn's were top quality and top dollar. I'm looking for a new spin casting reel so maybe I'll pick one up.

For bass I use a lot of plastics with bullet weights or carolina rigs or hook them wacky style and lots of crankbaits deep divers, jointed, (I love the rapalas bigger jointed rapalas like a j13), and use mostly colors resembling baby rainbow or brook trout, perch or shiners, I've only caught one fish on a spinner bait and it was the only tourny I've ever entered so I don't use them often. Although I just got a new top water buzz bait for christmas I'm hoping to nail some smallies with.

Largemouth and peacocks everyday in the lake behind my house. No monster but it's been fun. Tarpon fishing has been toomey! Monsters during the day in the middle of Govt Cut and 40lbers by te bridges at night. Water is still a little chilly for bonefish but I've seen a few singles cruising the flats down here. And the grouper fishing in Biscaybe Bay had been fantastic. I have a few wrecks in the bay that hold some pretty big groupers (and mutton snapper during the summer) and it's only about 8-10ft deep. I love South Florida.

I've never had hooks rust on my baits, unless they sat unused for years.

I'm a big fan of replacing all of the hooks on my crankbaits when I first buy them. Look into the Must.ad KVD Elite triple grips, they are toomey. They have a shorter shank, so you can actually buy a size larger than what comes standard on your bait, and they won't tangle.

I caught two smallies in chatfield lake in colorado on a watermelon tube rigged weedless. The closest smallmouth fishing around here is probably two or three hours away. We have plenty of bass, gar, perch, carp, bowfin, crappie, pickeral, cats, and bream. And salt water we get lots of different species, from stripers and trout to togs and sheepshead.

Edit: Warmouth are fun to catch on little grubs on jigheads. They dont get big but they are evil little bastards.

Also, how often do you guys lube your reels, and where do you place the lube solution? I've never done it but as I get nicer equipment I want to take better care of it. Also Rod Slick Rod covers, worth the 12 dollar investment?

And my lures sat in the plastic trays in my tackle box for probably the last 5 months in my parents basement, I swear they all rust every winter.

On my Penn theres a screw you can take out thats specifically for lubricant. I have found that my Penn holds up better than the Shimanos I hve bought and the Pflueger President I bought that is no longer operable because I used it for salt fishing(ooops).

Im about to finish the casting deck for my boat. I have an 8hp 2003 Tohatsu on a 14 ft lowe johnboat. I need a battery box and a new foot controlled trolling motor and it will be in good shape for bass fishing or river fishing.

Edit: Nick of it all you got the life. Ive been wanting to catch tarpon and snook for years.

Sounds toomey, I have an Old Town Guide canoe, 14'8" and I had a Riot Oddssey kayak I always fished in that was 8'6" but it was stolen two summers ago from my house :smt010 If I buy another kayak it will be a sit on top.

I have a SOUND 10 foot sit inside kayak I fish in, it pisses me off because it doesnt track well. I need to add the anchor system and a paddle leash and itll be better than it is currently.

What's the best way to get monster large and small mouth in a seculded fishing pond I fish in? It's got plenty of 1.5-3lbs LMB and 1-2.5SMB but I want big hogs. Also I was killing all the pickerel I pulled through the ice this winter there, but I'm thinking I should release some to reproduce for baitfish because I haven't seen any sunnies or other baitfish in there.

bluefish are everywhere, they usually get here around the first week of april depending on water temps and hang around till around november. We don't get grey trout where I'm from (central NJ) but we get weakfish which are a relative and very similar.

No, always catch and release unless it swallows the hook, I'll use it as coyote bait. I see where your going with the bass producing their own baitfish though? We also have a large family of beavers who have created a monster dam on one side of this pond (probably 4.5 acres), considering submerging some bodygrip 330 traps I've got. I hate beavers.

I take my reels apart and lube them up 1 to 2 times a season. Once before and once after. (Fishing season to me is March - October usually) If you're fishing salt water...2 times a year. Fresh water...not THAT important obviously because there won't be a salt buildup. Some reels have the spot laid out for you already, mine don't. Gotta take them apart and lube the gears and ball bearings.

I don't use Rod Covers, if you're fishing in Salt Water just rinse down your rods. Keep them out of the sun, etc. I just wash mine, keep them in my house, and spray WD40 or Reel Cleaner on the rod guides. (Wipe them down good, don't let it sit on there)
