POP PUNK THREAD AKA COME TOOBIN IT'S A SQUARE WORLD

General discussion, shows, and everything else.

Postby Less Four Year, More D4 » Mon Jan 31, 2011 3:51 pm

There's way too fucking many of those stupid "recommend me bands like (insert wonderful mosh part pop punk band name here." this isn't one of those actually, rather the opposite.

post your new demos (http://www.theneedlepoints.bandcamp.com if you're asking)
and discuss how fucking rad the copyrights are.

What all is even coming out this year?
New Banner Pilot, I'm pretty sure.
Dopamines/Dear Landlord split
The Manix are supposed to be recording a full length this year, too.
The Dopamines should also be putting something else out, I'm pretty sure.
Boilerman jsut finished a new 7"
AND IF THAT FUCKING COPYRIGHTS RECORD DOESN'T DROP I'M GOING TO MURDER SOMEONE.

WHAT ELSE, B9?

Yeah, they're writing SOMETHING, Brendan alludes. Ascertain that I will be all over that like white on rice when I get first whiff.

I didn't like the new NMB. Kinda over that band.

Saw Cheap Girls saturday night and they blew me the fuck away. Seriously shitbird stuff there.

Also, here's some shameless self-promotion: my band plays sorta-poppy punk stuff, so check it out if you feel inclined. http://americanlies.bandcamp.com http://facebook.com/americanlies

Andddddddd here are some cool LA-area bands that you should check out:
Black Sparrow Press
Summer Vacation
Joyce Manor
pacific Ghost
Gentlemen Prefer Blood
Bonsai

There's a bunch more, I'll post later.

Can't wait to hear more new shit from the Fake Boys. I'll probably be picking up the new Direct Hit! album too considered I donated to their kickstarter. I'm excited about the new Banner Pilot too, didn't know about that or the Dopamines/Dear Landlord split, completely expecting those to kick ass. Above all I'm really hoping RVIVR, Spraynard, and Thousandaries all release some new stuff this year.

Edit: Was very upset when I found out that the boston date for Gaslight Anthem this summer was without both Fake Problems and the Menzingers :(

haha
i've only seen them once and joe liked the venue so they only played "This Place Sucks" once, but i've heard stories of them playing it upwards towards 4 times in one set.

i actually was stuck outside watching them from the window that night (it was a little bar without a stage and the bands set up in front of a big window) because i'm underage and didn't know the bouncers of have a fake ID at the time. joe was outside talking to me and my friend briefly before their set, and he felt bad about us being excluded. i had to watch half of their set from the window, but eventually i was able to sneak in without the bouncers seeing. when he saw that i got in, he hi-fived me and played "Teenage Bonehead" at my request. i was only like 16 years old, and it made me feel sooo special. haha. i got a Love Songs t-shirt that night that i still wear all the time.

I saw the Queers once in like 95. They played with 8 Bark, Gauge, and Evergreen. So yeah that was a weird show. They were all wearing leather jackets no shirts and Guatemalan shorts.

the Dopamines play/used to play in binghamton pretty frequently. they have witnessed my stupid drunken antics on a few occasions, and they've got an embarrassing nickname for me these days. haha. won't get into anymore details than that. but yeah, they're really good dudes. they were kind enough to haul my ass back over the james river bridge into downtown richmond this past august after the first night of Best Friends Day. i had been walking all over the city all day and was physically exhausted. i probably walked more than 20 miles that day alone, and my feet were covered in blisters. they dropped me off and i stayed on the floor of a hotel room with some people i met at the show. interestingly enough, banner pilot was staying in the room next to theirs, so we stayed up and drank beer and ate pizza with them for a few hours before we went to bed.

Getting banged on the reg wrote:Boilerman jsut finished a new 7"

these dudes are great, too. i hooked them up with a house show in binghamton this past summer. we all went out to eat before the show, and then afterwards they crashed at my parents house. i felt like an Cornell graduate because i got pretty hepped up on goofballs and i think 2 of the 3 are edge kids. Joey and Max are also in a hardcore band called Noose that are pretty good.

I missed out on seeing The Queers like 2 weeks ago when I had a stiff neck for 3 days. If I had someone else to drive me to the show, I would have gone but it was a 2 hour drive by myself I was not willing to make. Been one of my favorite bands for a long time and something happens every time I try to see them. One day...

Does Teenage Bottlerocket have anything coming out this year? Them and House Boat are my current favorite pop punk bands.

Check out Old Wives. They released an album last year and I had never heard of them before, it really caught me by surprise. Great stuff.
Also, I've been listening to The Haverchucks demo constantly since it came out.

Dear Landlord is the best band out right now.
Saw the Queers and The Copyrights recently and they both killed it.
If there is a new Chixdiggit! album, count me in.

Two current bands to definitely check out are

and RUMSPRINGER from Tempe
