OFFICIAL PS3 THREAD

General discussion, shows, and everything else.

Postby BobbyxBrother » Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:34 pm

Everything PS3, no bullshit, or bashing other consoles. That's not the point of this thread, this is about new games, new users on the PSN, and other technical shit involving this beauty.

I'm curious about two thing:
1. Has anyone installed another OS on their PS3? I've thought about it for a while, and actually just looked into it tonight.(I have an OG 80 Gig, so I can install a new OS, unlike the Slims.)

2. How easy is it to install a new HDD? Do I have to back up all my data on a memory stick/card, or will it save on the internal memory that the PS3 has? And is there a specific type of HDD that I would need to get? I'm thinking I wanna make it a 500 Gig.

Here's a list of users, from this board, that have been posting in the Call of Duty thread, so if anyone is looking for some new friends, here you go.

I installed a notebook hard drive in mine. 250GB. It was no problem at all and works great. You do have to back your stuff up on an external HD or a flash drive. I made that mistake... lost everything.

Probably gonna put my PS3 on eBay with all the games and accessories in about a week.

Just don't play anymore. Kinda grown out of it. Only thing I use it for is to watch bluray. And I can just get a bluray player for like 100 bucks.

I think I read that notebook HDDs were the ones that are needed.

most likely since it takes a 2.5" SATA hard drive. larger lap tops and desk tops should have larger ones.

Yeah. I can't rack off the specs of the one I used off hand. But I'm pretty sure I used that IGN tutorial that was mentioned a couple posts above.

I also once tried to install Linux on my PS3. But I didn't have a USB keyboard or mouse so I didn't get very far in the installation. Hahaha. I figured my bluetooth keyboard and scroll pad would've been enough.

Does anyone know if I can use my PS3 as a middle man kind of? I want to save shit from my computer on a flash drive, put it on my PS3, then use the flash drive again to transfer the music I saved on my PS3 on my girlfriend's computer.

i use vuze. its a bit torrent client but it will also synch with your ps3. when it does this, the ps3 logo will appear in the side bar of vuze and you can drag and drop files into that. you will then be able to stream files from your computer to the ps3 and watch then on the tv. it doesnt take up any of the ps3 hard drive space.

i've been a big 360 fan since it came out. but lately i've been wanting to get a ps3. if i got i'd probably only buy ps3 exclusive games, and play everything else on the 360. with that being said, are there enough good exclusive games that would keep me busy? or would it just be a waste of money to buy a ps3 just for the ps3 games.

i had the same intentions when i bought my ps3. every game i've bought since has been a ps3 game, exclusive or not.

i'll break it down for you.

-download vuze onto your computer

-turn on the ps3 when vuze is on.

-the ps3 logo will appear on the vuze. herse a link of a screen shot since the pic is too big.
http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/6814/screenshot20100221at316.png

-drag and drop your files into the ps3 logo on the vuze.

-the file will show up in the menu on the ps3.

-watch at your leisure. the ps3 and the vuze program must both be on for it to work.

Awesome, thanks. I appreciate that, I'm just not sure what doing this will do for me. I have nothing on my computer that I want to watch, I'd just want to take music from it, and but I'm getting that it won't work for both of them having to be on when I take it 200 miles away to my girlfriend's.

To dude inquiring about quality exclusives: there are many.
Uncharted 1, 2
Killzone 2
Valkyria Chronicles
Demon's Souls
Resistance 1, 2
Ratchet and Clank Future and Tools of Destruction
LittleBigPlanet
MGS4

...and more....

Anyone who still claims that PS3 has no truly fantastic exclusives is a fucking dishonest retard.

installing a new HDD is really easy in the ps3. 320gb formatted comes out to about 298gb. Mine has about 210gb of HD movies on it now, best use for a game console ever

no problem. its incredibly easy. i found it out by accident when i was looking through my menu on the ps3. i say the little vuze icon in the menu and i realized what i could do with it. vuze pretty much did all the work for me, all i had to do was add media to it.

-drag and drop your files into the ps3 logo on the vuze.

-the file will show up in the menu on the ps3.

-watch at your leisure. the ps3 and the vuze program must both be on for it to work.

this seems very cool and easy. thanks for the info. :smt001

no problem. its incredibly easy. i found it out by accident when i was looking through my menu on the ps3. i say the little vuze icon in the menu and i realized what i could do with it. vuze pretty much did all the work for me, all i had to do was add media to it.

yo i dl'ed vuze and dl'ed a movie to try it out, and now everytime i open vuze it freezes. this happen to anyone else? im trying to figure this shit out because i really like the program so far

no man sorry, ive had nothing but good times with vuze.

psn: mechanicalglove

I'm currently playing Tekken 6, MAG, Bioshock, MGS4, and Uncharted. I just got my PS3 back in December and I've been loving it since.
