Best bike for the money? hahahahah

You work at a shop that sells Treks, therefore, you have a required minimum of Trek shit you must pawn off (a pretty high amount at that, hence why a lot of small shops don't sell Trek)

So other than your fanboy-ism, lets look at a Trek. Take the Road 2.1, sells for like 1360. What do you get? 105 and Tiagra mixed, Alex rims, and a shitty crank. Oh, not to mention a mass produced frame. So, essentially, you can get the same frame, better components, and a cheaper price on a Motobecane.

With that said, I like my new Trek helmet.

Next.

We sell Trek, Cervelo, Cannondale, Kestral, and Elite Bicycles. I don't work on commission. I don't have a quota. And I will ALWAYS recommend Trek as "best bang for your buck".

You can tell people whatever you want, it doesn't mean you're right. Do you think computer sales people at Best Buy know what they're spouting out their mouth? They don't make commission either...

Ya got me

I think Specialized makes some of the best production bikes on the market, and they're not any more expensive than Trek's stuff.

The rear triangle being connected by a sliding drop out is very, very bizarre. I've never seen a set up like that before...there may be on others on the market, but nothing I'm aware of. Trek's got a huge budget and a huge R&D team, so I'm sure they've tested it to death, but honestly, it's just begging to fail. Not saying that it necessarily will, but there is certainly more room for failure than a traditional set up with a single solid piece back there.

As far as private eyes is saying, a vertical drop out doesn't matter and isn't dangerous at all--sliding vertical drop outs are quite common in single speed mountain bikes, and they're exposed to a lot more abuse than a typical "urban fixed gear" would be.

My conversion will be done tomorrow. It was a fun project, and the only thing I paid for was a chain install (I didn't have a chain tool and just wanted it done quick). Any tire recommendations for a fixed gear? I'm familiar with road tires, but figure there is no point paying 40-50 a tire since they will wear out quicker than on a road bike. Maybe some cheaper Hutchinsons? What do you all ride?

I'm not familiar with a 26 1/4" wheel...do you mean 27 1/4"? That's a relatively common wheel size on older bikes.

26" wheels are typically MTB wheels, and if for some reason, you do actually have 26 1/4" wheels, logically 26" wheels should work fine (especially if you have disc brakes), because you should be able adjust the reach of your brake pads by that fraction of an inch.

I had an old Schwinn that had 27 1/4" wheels, I put 700c wheels on it without any issues.

Yea, it says right on the wheel it's 26 1/4", it's a way thinner wheel than a mountain bike wheel, it's a racing bike, I would think around 700c would be alright, but the measurements take that up to a 27" wheel, I don't see much difference between 1/4" but a whole inch is alot.

I might be confused by measurements but what is a 26" wheel size in 'c'?

Pretty much all the decent, worthwhile info I could find quickly...sounds like a bizarro Schwinn size.

If I were you, I would take the bike to a shop and ask to see a couple of wheels to determine what will fit best (all of them will probably fit, but some might leave you with less frame clearance if you wanted bigger tires, or might be too small for your brakes to reach).

You'll have more road-appropriate wheel/tire choices with 700c. Less with 650b/c wheels/tires, and even less with 26" wheels/tires (as most are designed for mountain bikes...though quite a few companies are starting to make road-specific 26" wheels due to more touring bikes utilizing the size, and 26" replacement wheels being more common than 700c in less "cultured" places).

I'm not selling it, ever!
The whole shebang cost about 700$
and I had to mount 20mm tyres, not enough clearance for 23mm.

My bikes are almost done...gonna try to pick them up this afternoon.

Still waiting on my god damn wheels from that guy. He emailed me and said he's still waiting on a front hub from the manufacturer (Hadley), so I asked him to build the rear ASAP and send it, and send the front when he gets the hub.The rear is much more important to me, because once I get the cassette installed, I won't need to go back to the bike shop for anything.

since you cant weld carbon tubes like you can steel, the tubes are essentially glued together with the "lugs" which are either composite or aluminum. You could essentially make your own carbon frame if you ordered carbon tubes , set up a jig on a table top ,and glued it together .

How solid is it? I mean i know it has to be pretty safe or they wouldn't do it.

very strong , I dont know the glue or liquid cement or whatever is used, but very strong. Companies like Trek and Look have been doing it since the late 80s early 90s, but now they all use monocoque carbon frames instead of lugs .

I'm really glad there is almost no bike theft here . I used to have 2 hed3's on my bike , never once locked either of them up. I currently have a 300 dollar saddle, I've never locked that to the frame. It's wild when I hear people have to chain down every part of their bike or someone will take it . If and when I move to a different state, I think my expensive track bike will just be my track bike and I'll pick up a kilott or craigslist junker .

I think Kilo TTs are one of the best cheapy production track bikes on the market.

Lugged fork, name brand (Reynolds) steel, decent part spec. Can't really fuck with it at that price point.

For the price, they're killer . My old roommate had one , I've ridden it a few times when I had a flat that I didn't feel like changing , and it felt decent.
