haha I was just about to make one.
I'm totally piped again, I'm in 3 leagues. 2 Head 2 Heads and one auction draft(nervous yet excited) I was in poster bandrus1's league and I took the season but got killed in the playoffs. I'm totally piped.

Taking the season but sucking in the playoffs = you're a loser and nobody cares about you taking the season (this is exactly what I did last season).

Eh, I did something right by winning the season, and indeed h2h for life, but I was convinced and trying something different wouldn't be a bad idea, so I'm gonna go with that.

What does your top 10 list look like? By that I can tell you if you have a chance to win your league. I am a fantasy baseball psychic.

What team were you in that last year? I won the whole thing. Tz's 24. Are you in that league again this year? This year I'm "DevilishGrinOfTz's24"
I'm doing 3 H2H leagues (50,100,100) and my auction/roto league (50).

That's what I'm thinking. 2nd basemen (not a deep position) with those numbers?
Pedroia is the only one that comes close and he's a 2nd rounder.

Don't get me wrong Cano is best 2b in the game. Out of the 3 players he deserves 1st round mention the most. I think 1b and OF are too staked to be taking Cano 1st round. Early in 2nd round? Hell yeah.

That's good you have time. Right now that top 10 sucks. Do some homework man. I buy into the strat of hitters before pitchers. You need to decide if you think hitting or pitching is more valuable. Make a list of the best players. You have a long ways to go but can figure it out by the 18th. Show your buddies you aren't fooling around.

I see what you are saying. Grabbing a 2b 1st round while others are grabbing 1b and OF could work to your advantage as you will outscore them in that position. However imo if you don't grab a 1b or OF 1st round you be behind in either position. Only exception I have in this theory is Bautista 1st round.

I have no pitchers top 10. Others may have 1 or 2 tops with Verlander and Halladay. Check the site you are playing on for a top 300. That'll give you a good idea. I prefer magazines myself but they cost about $8 so that sort of sucks.

what positions should you be looking to draft first? like if it was a toss up between a good 1B or good SS or OF.

I think it depends entirely on the type of league you are in and the scoring setup. If this is your first year playing check out a few lists and top 100 rankings (espn, yahoo, cbs, etc.) to get an idea of where most players are being drafted. There is nothing wrong with having some favorites either. I saw you had Strausburg ranked high on your list, you can always reach for him a round or two earlier then his projection.
As far as who to draft first try and couple mock drafts and to get an idea of where players are going. Fantasy baseball can be tedious but you will learn a ton about players if you keep up with it.

My league is declaring keepers next weekend. I'm torn on which pitchers to keep. I'm only keeping two. It's 10-team, mixed, roto.
I'm keeping Verlander in exchange for a 3rd round pick, but I don't know if I should keep Weaver for a 5th, or CJ Wilson for a 13th. Keep in mind, the top 20 or 30 players will likely be off the board as keepers.
Oh, and my offense sucks dong.
WWUD?

Keep Wilson. Weaver is obviously worthy of much higher than a 5th rounder, but there is NO FUCKING WAY Wilson wouldn't go before the 13th. The trade off is better in your favor to give up your 13th rounder for Wilson and still be able to select someone good in the 5th round.

Here is my keeper situation, hopefully someone can chime in with some suggestions:
Keeper league where we keep 6 players. 12 teams, H2H, auction draft, so you keep the guys at last year's price.
These are the guys I'm considering keeping, what I paid for them last year and what ESPN's "suggested retail price" for this season is. Keep in mind, that ESPN's suggested price is almost always a few dollars (or more) lower than actual auction price ends up being.
Brian McCann - 66th - Last Year Cost: 23 - This Year Avg. Cost: 15
Ian Kinsler - 28th - Last Year Cost: 21 - This Year Avg. Cost: 28
Brett Gardner - 132nd - Last Year Cost: 16 - This Year Avg. Cost: 12
Adam Jones - 45th - Last Year Cost: 17 - This Year Avg. Cost: 14
Nelson Cruz - 81st - Last Year Cost: 16 - This Year Avg. Cost: 20
Ben Zobrist - 111th - Last Year Cost: 18 - This Year Avg. Cost: 19
Miguel Montero - 149th - Last Year Cost: 9 - This Year Avg. Cost: 11
***Justin Upton - 3rd - Last Year Cost: 10 - This Year Avg. Cost: 35
Mike Trout - 98th - Last Year Cost: 1 - This Year Avg. Cost: Unlisted
Dan Haren - 52nd - Last Year Cost: 29 - This Year Avg. Cost: 21
Tim Lincecum - 40th - Last Year Cost: 40 - This Year Avg. Cost: 22
CJ Wilson - 113th - Last Year Cost: 5 - This Year Avg. Cost: 15
***Craig Kimbrel - 61st - Last Year Cost: 3 - This Year Avg. Cost: 16
Kimbrel and JUpton are obvious keeps, trying to figure out where the other 4 should be placed.
Our categories, for reference, are as follows:
Batting
Home Runs (HR) Runs Scored (R)
Runs Batted In (RBI) Stolen Bases (SB)
On Base plus Slugging Pct (OPS) Strikeouts (K)
Hits (H)
Pitching
Earned Run Average (ERA)* Strikeouts (K)
Walks plus Hits Per Innings Pitched (WHIP)* Wins (W)
Saves (SV) Innings Pitched (IP)
Strikeouts per 9 Innings (K/9)

That's what I was thinking. Wilson is too good a value at that pick to let go.
For anyone else that is in a keeper league-- assuming that all most of the top-tier players are kept, who are you targeting in the draft? I'm looking to rebuild my offense, and it's going to be a bunch of old guys and young, upside guys. Does Konerko have anything left in the tank? Was last year the only good fantasy year Mike Morse will have?

Seriously ... 2nd base is shallow as fuck this year. Cano and Pedroia. After that you have the injury prone Kinsler and Utley, and then you step down to Phillips and Zobrist.
If i dont get Cano or Pedroia, Ill wait out 2nd along with catcher until the end of the draft and hope Ackley or Espinosa has a breakout season

I remember our first year doing fantasy and how bad we all did in the draft haha. None of us knew anything, I think i took the entire Red Sox starting rotation because they are my favorite team haha.

Montero and McCann on the same team? I would keep Lincecum, Wilson, Kinsler, and Haren. If you dont keep all six players, what dost thou get?
Youre getting a good price on Kinsler and Wilson if you keep them, but i guess overpaying for Lincecum ( I dont see how that is possible)???
Haren is going to have a great season

Your auction budget starts at 260, anyone you keep is subtracted from that automatically. So basically, you get "more" money, if you don't keep all 6.

Worried about SP and not having a true ace and also 1b and 2b. May look into another 2b and dropping a SP.
Youre outfield is stacked even if Crawford doesnt start the season with Bourn on your bench. I dont like your pitching staff at all ... I just dont trust Holland or Garza this year.
I think Michael Young will do fine this year.

ok ... for sure Wilson and Kinsler then I would say. Lincecum too, if you dont mind dropping 40 on him. How many pitchers are kept in your league? 6 players is alot on each team, so I feel like there would be alot of starting pitching gone just form keepers?

Does your league value saves and holds? If so you need relief help, badly.
I'd try and package Napoli and one of your pitchers for an ace. Napoli is going to regress if he gets any decent amount of at bats but there is probably someone in your league who would take him and a scrap pitcher for a top 15 starter.

I attempted to make a fantasy baseball worksheet in Excel to help me on draft day.
This first screenshot is my top 10 rankings. My overall and my top 10 my position. At the end are players I think could be bargains in later rounds.

Next is my top 10 players per position, broken down into last years stats and projections for 2012. Green means I think they will outperform projections, blue means I think they will hover around the same and red means I think they will regress or are too big an injury risk for their draft position.

I honestly don't remember. I just remember it was one of the major sites and that I agreed with them.

Mikeford, can you go into more detail about an auction draft, I'm way overthinking this and panicking. haha
I saw a youtube video of some midget fuckin ese draft Chad Qualls for $14, i assumed he overspent? Eh, anywho, help would rule. From anybody too!

did a h2h league i didnt take serious and i ended up in second with taking brian wilson as my first pick overall (#6). it also helped i drafted really well on everything and barely had to make a lot of moves all season. i wouldnt hesitate doing that same strategy again.
