Someone said they wanted one in the Slowdive thread, so here we go. I'm just gonna post a couple that I think are elementary, and anyone into shoegaze should have all the stuff these bands put out.
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Practically the holy grail of shoegaze. If you don't have this, you need it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?njdyh0yzgvq Slowdive - Souvlaki
I'd say this and Loveless made the greatest impact on where this sound was headed.
http://www.mediafire.com/?qtparycgizqfmr4 Ride - Nowhere
http://www.mediafire.com/?ydznd4t1lmm Pale Saints - The Comforts of Madness
http://www.mediafire.com/?rlihyakdbji Lush - Split
http://www.mediafire.com/?gnvjnjj1nvm Chapterhouse - Whirlpool
http://www.mediafire.com/?4mwncxzwbmn Cocteau Twins - Treasure (get Head Over Heels as well)
http://www.mediafire.com/?wgunnk005mn Other good shit... Curve - Doppelganger
Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton
Alison's Halo - Eyedazzler
Catherine Wheel - Ferment
The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa - Pigment
Ultra Vivid Scene - Joy
loveliescrushing - bloweyelashwish
Astrobrite - Crush (this and the latter artist are both Scott Cortez projects)
More shoegaze-y than actually shoegaze, but so good... Moose - ...XYZ
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See
The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa - Free-D (Original Soundtrack)

I saw them live last year and I love all the noise. He makes his own pedals that are highly regarded by other bands/artists. It would always feel like he was getting his guitar as loud as humanly possible but then would somehow stomp another box and get it to a whole new level. I am a sucker for that sort of thing. Love feeling like my ears are melting off my head.

I'll post another by the band from other post, True Widow (the video that says duelist). This band has a new one coming out soon and I hope it brings them even more recognition then they already have. I have heard their music described as "stone-gaze"

I was gonna post The Jesus and Mary Chain, but they're not really shoegaze. Amazing band, regardless. In the realm of shoegaze-sounding albums, The Appleseed Cast's Sagarmatha is one of my favourites. The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are also notable since they're one of the few modern bands that are authentic to the classic sound.

Yeah, the vocals were hard for me to get into at first but now I dig it. It's like a mash up of bad 90's radio rock and British shoegaze.

as much as I love Adorable and Slowdive,
I have to say Catherine Wheel is my favorite shoegaze band. Sure, they tend to be more straight up rock at times but fuzzy and lo-fi gets old (IMO). Sometimes you want something a bit more... like in depth song writing. And I think that's why CW hit all angles and deliver such a full sound.
Catherine Wheel - Ferment
http://www.mediafire.com/?022uyy1zgdo also, I'll up the reissue that came out last year, featuring the Mission of Burma and Husker Du covers.
