I haven't been working on much new stuff lately, looking for a little bit of inspiration. What have you been working on this summer?

great work dude. what kind of set up do you have? I like working digitally, but I feel like working on bigger pieces is a bit of a headache because I have to keep focusing the entire screen on a small portion of my illustration just to make sure I add detail/edit. And then I zoom out to see it looks a bit out of proportion. Not the biggest deal, but it keeps me from starting more "serious" projects on my computer.
here is more of my work if anyone wants to check it out:
lucaskalina.wordpress.com
This is one of my more recent digital pieces:
[resize]http://lucaskalina.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/face31.jpg,580[/resize]
I also try to do some animation/motion work when I can.
http://vimeo.com/7342309I have had zero drive to do any design work lately, which is worrying me since it's what I'm majoring in at school.

i'm horrible at taking pictures so all of these pictures are at weird angles. also i'm obviously not good at painting, but it's fun at times.
[resize]http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad9/ThinkAgainX/mygenerationwasborncontrolled.jpg?t=1277854539,580[/resize]
(that's a tv on a zombies head by the way... it kind of looks like a microwave)

(pretty generic i know, but my art teacher liked it a lot)
[resize]http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad9/ThinkAgainX/handsmakedangerhandsmakeart.jpg?t=1277854531,580[/resize]
(art project where we had to to incorporate three random objects - i picked a mouse, headphones, and a calligraphy pen... i also accidentally got some black paint on it near the bottom and tired to wipe it off making a dark spot)
[resize]http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad9/ThinkAgainX/adimeworth100000.jpg?t=1277854507,580[/resize]
(i didn't plan on having that white bubble with writing, but someone must of smudged a lot of white paint on it when i left it on the art room drying rack so ya i quickly tried to fix it)

Just photoshop cs2 and a 4x6 inch wacom tablet. Sometimes I scan the image in first but more often I just start off with something loose in photoshop and keep refining. I know what you mean about working close in and then zooming out and having it look odd. Some tips I've learned that have helped me is flipping the image horizontally from time to time when Im working on a painting. You'll find your eye will pick up on problems in the image if you flip it back and forth. You can also work on the details on a separate layer and if it doesn't match right you can stretch them to fit without messing up the other stuff.
Do you do your illustration work in illustrator, photoshop or both? I really dig your style both illustration and design work. Very cool and bizarre.

so much awesome stuff in this thread.
here are a few things I've done somewhat recently.

I used this for two different things, one painting and one digital, the digital one was for a graphics project built around lyrics, which is why there are Ruiner lyrics in there haha.

this one is kinda unfinished

These are the only pictures I have. I did these when I was 15 or 16 for my art class. So 5 or 6 years ago. Nothing turns out well with a timeline

I feel like such a butt-head for missing his show at MoMA. His animations are so strange, it would've been cool to see them at a higher-than-youtube-quality.
The few of my constant favorites are Zdzislaw Beksinki, Francis Bacon, Peter Chung, John Kricfalusi, Henryk Tomaszewski, and a teacher I had last year, James Victore. Best teacher I have had in design, easily. The guy's approach made me more attentive and critical. I just wish I wasn't so critical on my own goddamn work

That show was PHENOMENAL. Seeing the animations at that scale was really intense but I had never really looked into his drawings/etc, which is really what i love of his.

Yeah, his drawings and, uh...non-moving pieces are great too. Even though his animations tend to be a bit abstract(understatement? though I haven't seen all of em), the still work offers a totally different perspective on his ideas.
I've actually been wanting to go to the Guggenheim to check out the "haunted" exhibit they have up, but my membership expired/I'm so low on cash, I can't justify it now.
