According to Kerrang!:

Saw this making the rounds on Twitter. Not too bad a list IMO. I'd switch a few out, but hey...

Also, definitely agree on AOF for IL. Pretty big miss on that one.

Kentucky has to be one of either Coliseum or Black Cross.

I'm not sure how Turnstile gets picked for Maryland over the many Dischord era bands from there.

I'm fine with the VA pick, but my heart says it should be Avail.

Boston is a tough one to pick, but SSD is definitely the wrong answer.

Whoever the editor is for Kerrang! should be fired for not catching that Ringworm was spelled wrong.

I don't think Culture has had lasting impression to warrant being labeled the best hardcore band out of FL. Poison The Well oughta take that.

There are very few that aren't arguable and more than a dozen that are just straight up rough choices.

Like someone said earlier, this just feels like this author didn't start this article until the night before and picked whatever band showed up first in a google search.

Paint it Black is such a weird choice for PA. If you're going to go the Dan Yemin route, at least pick the band that was actually influential. I love Paint it Black, but they were not very relevant for a large portion of their existence.

Seriously. You can't deny their influence at the time but they aren't even in the top 10 of best hardcore bands to come from Boston, let alone the entire state of Massachusetts.

There's so many better choices for PA. I like Paint it Black a lot but there's a bunch more to pick from. Same with Illinois. Charles Bronson is definitely not the best hardcore band in that state by a mile.

Maybe someone can assure me there's better hardcore in the desert and the rockies.

The best hardcore band to ever come out of Jersey is not The Misfits. I don't know who it is, but it's not the misfits.

The lack of Cro Mags, CoC, and Los Crudos make this list void. Also, MDC blows. And the Misfits aren’t a Hardcore band.

Let's be real. Misfits is the correct answer for NJ.

It's the equivalent of listing The Beatles as the best rock band from Liverpool.

I'd consider them Hardcore, well at least for the first Suicidal album.... Before they went more metal.

Husker Du for Minnesota makes me realize how few big hardcore bands have ever come from there. Only other one that I can think of would be Disembodied. kinda weird with how many good punk bands in general have come from there.

Husker Du were only a hardcore band very early on. If you think they were a hardcore band when they released Zen Arcade, you either have a very broad idea of hardcore, or are high.... Possibly both.

If not Husker Du the next best option would be Willful Neglect or Misery.

For NY I think Bad Brains are the only way.

New Jersey should be AOD, they were the most prominent and active and they were great. Misfits were another thing that carried into the hardcore days. Mental Abuse were great too but unable to tour.

Scream made one of the best DCHC albums, never really thought of them as Virginians. White Cross were my first thought.

If not the Germs, Black Flag is appropriate.

Arkansas should just be disqualified for being a cultural shithole.

Paint It Black should not have been PA. Probably should have been Kid Dynamite (much bigger scope and impact than a band like YDI)
Bad brains should have been DC over Minor Threat. Not a question.
AF is the right choice for NY (places like this will never count the Bad Brains from there). When in doubt, go with the first band that changed everything.
