There’s a podcast called The Infinate Inning that I think you’d really dig.

Cool, I'll check it out. Any specific episodes I should give a listen?

I don't really care too much about the gif policy, I mean Pitching Ninja is great but really just appeals to established fans of the game. I don't see how it'd attract more people. Cool catches, monster home runs, gaffes, etc. have always been around and will be seen. I've shown that kind of stuff to people who don't care about baseball and they think it's cool but know it's 3 hours long 162 times a year and they're few and far between.

Baseball isn't gonna die or anything and I'd rather not fuck it up trying to skim off 20 minutes a game to appeal to people who might never watch more than ten games a season or visit a park more than once a season.

Business is business though. Don't mind the pitch clock or mound visit limits but even considering banning defensive shifts is a bad sign.

my favorite was the one with Meg Rawley, (episode 54). Episode 57 is good too just for the bit about Hank Greenberg and anti-semitism in the MLB.

MLB needs to embrace the ubiquity of baseball and gifs are part of that. Nobody needs to be watching 162 games, either. One of the things about 162 games is that you can skip a week of games and catch up with a set boxscores. It's also a game with dvr and some forms of streaming, you can leave on while doing other stuff and back up if you noticed you missed something. That's the other thing about 3 hour games, most games are already played out by the 8th and since most games are of marginal importance, the ones that are important or engaging will hold audiences through extra innings.

In-game betting will also be a huge boon for engagement.

didn't see this mentioned in the thread so I thought I would share. if this is part of a collective bargaining agreement it isn't really relevant how the MLB feels about it.

In-Game Betting will NEVER happen. This is the league that tried to shut down fantasy baseball/DFS, afterall.

Their next fight is either nationalizing gambling and getting a cut from companies they endorse or fighting the nationalizing of it and spending a shit ton on keeping it illegal.

Sports don't actually get a say in what you can bet on, that's up to the book.

You can't watch MLB Network for 10 minutes without seeing Draft Kings so probably the former.

I bet on baseball and would love for it to be legal. Already love it but some shitty Thursday day game in a parlay makes it 100x better.

The funny thing is baseball has the most relevant information and cataloging available to the public and a pretty low injury impact. Pretty much everything is accounted for, the issue is developing a spreadsheet or program to isolate it.

When betting goes national, so many nerds are going to get denied access to baseball specifically.

I didn't really think about that, I just mean on any day the Dallas Bradens of the league can throw a no hitter.

So the Rockies shifted the NL's best third basemen into left field against Gallo last night. At what point do the rangers just clear the benches over this blatant and laughable disrespect?

Other than BR and fangraphs, what baseball sites do you guys have bookmarked?

Thanks for pitcherlist. soxmachine seems cool. The astros sbn site had a similar split since the ws. Sbn is trash but the linked commenting is so damn convenient.

Yep. I think a lot of it depends on who is giving up all their free time for the "opportunity" to run a team blog. The Mariners have historically had a really well managed SBN site. Jeff Sullivan, who now writes for Fangraphs full time, used to be the M's SBN guy. Lookout Landing still rocks to this day. That said, the other team I follow really closely, the San Jose Sharks, have a horrible SBN site that is basically just recaps and "game threads" with a few poorly conceptualized articles tossed in so it's a mixed bag.

Keuchel has 3 gold gloves, and that's probably the best throw I've seen from a pitcher in a minute.

Breggers walk off was wild but it sucks that the astros don't play a competitive team until the m's on july 30th.
