Toronto Thread v.FUCK YOU BOSTON EH

General discussion, shows, and everything else.

Postby Dick Pole » Thu May 02, 2013 1:43 pm

Dunno what happened to the old Toronto thread so here is a new one.

Really looking forward to being in Toronto for summer for the first time and hopefully having a lot more free time to get out and do all the shit I can't do during the school year.

Post about restaurants, good stores (if you know any second hand stores that are cheap and close to downtown I would love to hear bout them), upcoming shows you're excited for and other cool stuff to do in the city in the summer.

Can't wait to get out to some stuff and hopefully meet a lot more of you guys!

Well, the main Hardcore/Punk/Metal shop Hits and Misses closed down back in September but there's still Rotate This and Sonic Boom that get in some ok stuff occasionally.

If you're looking for shows, now is actually a great time for it. Weekend Nachos/Homewrecker are playing here next Monday (I think), Despise You on the 12th, Integrity on the 25th. Coke Bust are playing here in July I believe, and that's just scratching the surface. If you didn't already know, keep a close eyw on the Stuck In The City facebook group. Most Toronto shows are posted there. I get the feeling you already know all of this, but just in case.

Trauma, I'm trying to thin out my record collection and I might have some Endless Blockade stuff if you want any. Moving back to the city this weekend and I couldn't be more excited. A month of waking up early and commuting to/from the suburbs sucked.

How 'bout them Jays....

Not a huge sports dude by any means, but I do enjoy watching the Jays and all the hype around the team they've built got me excited for the season, such a let down.

edit: Made plans and forgot that Weekend Nachos was on Monday :smt012 .

I wish I wasn't out of town for most of the summer (at least plan to be), missing so many shows throughout may - This is Hell, Weekend Nachos, No Trigger, Crime in Stereo. Even missing American Nightmare thanks to sharing the date with my cousins wedding, sigh. Hopefully I can make that Comeback Kid show, and at least I got to catch Mountain Man a couple weeks ago, good time.

High Park is cool, especially around this time. According to their website, this weekend will be when the cherry blossom trees bloom, so that would be cool to see. There's also the always popular Trinity Bellwoods.

Hey, so Demolition being on Triple B is pretty cool news, right? I mean, who'da thunk a Barrie band would be on Triple B?
That new EP is sick. Hopefully this will bring even more attention to the wonderful scene that is Southern Ontario.

Those are both good suggestions, but Bickford Park is awesome. It's near Christie Pitts, but a lot smaller and more low-key, and if you want to have a drink or two without getting hassled by cops it's probably your best bet.

Chinatown would probably be good to go with a date to, as well. If you're into a cheap/awesome option and dumplings, check out Dumpling House at 328 Spadina Ave (near Spadina Ave and Dundas St. W). It's $7.50 for 15 boiled or 12 pan-fried dumplings, and they have a lot of options. You can also grab a good side dish (and they're massive), since the dumplings are so cheap.

Get some tacos and bourbon at Grand Electric and get some roti at Gandhi. These aren't as cheap (especially the former), but they're worth it.

So weird that I always forget Bickford when I'm about 2 minutes down the street from it at work. I do agree that it's way better to hang out and drink in.

Last night I spoke to a dude outside of the bovine saxophone club who claims to be a journalist but wouldn't tell me what publication he worked for. He told me that TMZ bought the video for around 250,000. I guess we'll see.

Hosting this show at my house in three-ish weeks, and it's going to be a fucking blast.

Big Eyes (Grave Mistake)
Total Trash (Deranged)
My Man (indie folk)
Brauer (think 90s Dischord/rev summer stuff)
