Seems like the Dodgers aren't really on board with trading for Stanton, so the Giants might end up getting him for Panik and crap prospects.

If the Dodgers don't get him, I think the Giants have a legitimate shot. Our prospects +willing to take on his ENTIRE contract.. and the fact he would be willing to come to SF. Legit shot.
on the other hand, it was reported he was concerned about the depth for the Giants.

... and if SF gets him, that will probably dismantle our future for a good chunk of time, which would suck.

The Marlins asked for Stanton's approval and now the Giants are meeting with Stanton's people. It looks like it might happen.

Morosi talking like the Cards are moving on from Stanton and looking to acquire Colome/Longoria from Tampa. So that would also kill their supposed Donaldson interest.

He has to at least be somewhat on board because they needed his permission before the Giants could talk to his reps. Otherwise it's tampering.

Derek Jeter fired a scout who has cancer and was awaiting a kidney transplant while he was in the hospital.

And they cut off his phone. While he was in the hospital. Jeter is trash.

Jeter also hasn't spoken to any of the firings personally, all through representatives.
NY media trying to put it on the baseball operations guy. Which is bullshit. Since it's not like they'll be giving that dude any credit for any success, it'll all be Jeter.

So Ohtani is believed to prefer a team that does not have a Japanese player on it already? I originally didn’t think the Cubs had a chance but everything is sounding more and more like it could happen.

From what I read today the dodgers have no chance of getting him since they're trying to shed payroll since they're in luxury tax hell and the biggest stipulation from the marlins is the winning team has to pick up at least $250M of his contract. Seems like SF has a good chance.

It seems a Padres writer is the only one running with this story. Maybe because a Japanese paper said it's down to the dodgers, Padres and Yankees.

Good Deal. An actual catcher who can handle a staff/play defense and isn't a complete void offensively. Also takes heat off of Collins/Zavala so they can develop.

Last night I remembered that John Sterling is still mad because Charlie Steiner steps all over the call of Boone's ALCS home run. And now he gets to relive it constantly.

I never thought I would be rooting for a super exciting incoming player to sign with the fucking Padres if that's the case.

The Yankees obviously didn't give him what he wanted, plus the coast thing. Although I feel like any team that lets him play the field and pitch would have gotten him, no matter where they were located.

The narrative of him wanting to go to a smaller market team doesn't really make a ton of sense when 3/6 teams he's meeting with are still in a larger market.

Texas plays almost half their road games on the wc. angels, astros and reds(huh?) still in the mix, too. I think the biggest issue issue is he wants to be able to catch a relatively short flight home more often than not.
I don't blame him for that. I almost hope he ends up a padre.

San Diego, if he ends up what he's supposed to be, is where he can influence baseball the most. Since they're also the team most likely to play him in the field

I think having him focus on his hitting and DHing 3-4 of his off days would be a better net than playing left on his 2-3 of his off days in a 5 day rotation.

Seattle has a bunch of outfielders, and if you DH him then Cruz has to play the field. I think it's Padres or Dodgers.

The seven teams that will meet Ohtani, confirmed to The Athletic from sources: #Dodgers; #Angels; #Padres; #Mariners; #SFGiants; #Rangers; #Cubs. Every other club is out.

I don't know why he would go to Texas and hear constant Darvish comparisons. I thought getting away from other Japanese stars was one of his things

He's going to get that comparison wherever he goes because people are dumb and can only compare players if they share the same ethnicity. Yu doesn't play in Texas anymore. It makes sense.

Available budgets for remaining Ohtani finalists:
Rangers ($3.53m), Mariners ($1.57m), Angels ($1.315m), Cubs ($300k), Padres ($300k), Dodgers ($300k), Giants ($300k)

Feel like MLB should give us some money back for Flores dying but I won't hold my breath.
