Awful tragedy, saw the news report of the accident yesterday before they identified the victim so needless to say I’m shocked to see it was someone familiar. Loved everything this dude has been apart of, very sad to hear this news.

Just in the last hour I've seen the amount raised go from 4k to over 10k, which is great.

Fuck, that sucks. I saw Cave In on an off night when Brodsky was sick, so they switched their set up and played a bunch of tracks for Scofield to take over with. It's still one of the best sets I've ever seen any band play. Dude owned the stage and killed it. RIP

Legitimate tragedy. Dude absolutely crushed everything he did. As far as I'm concerned he was the gold standard for bass players in heavy music. Can't even express how much his music meant to me. Hug your fucking families, dudes and dudettes.

Definitely share on Facebook if you haven't already. There's no reason that shouldn't be in the six digits by tomorrow, and up from there. As always, it's cold comfort for an unimaginable loss to the family... but for a dude whose music has been with a lot of us for literally 20 years, and will continue to be there for the rest of our lives... the least we can do is make sure whatever his kids want to ultimately do or make of themselves, the financial resources will be there for them.

We shared a couple of mutual friends. And I'd go to any local shows when he was in the tri-state area he was playing. But when my dad passed away in 2013, he reached out to me to let me know if my family or I needed anythingHe was around to help. He and I weren't tight at all and he went out of his way to reach out, I will always remember that. He was a great guy and i'm heartbroken.

This sucks. I saw Cave In at every level, even saw them open for the Foo Fighters. Caleb was always a highlight. Zozobra was great as well live and Caleb couldn't have been a more humble dude.

Sidenote, I remember when he played with The Icarus Line for a minute, that was rad as hell to me.

Such a sad story to here and see. I'm in Portsmouth so it was a pretty big story here in the area. We were waiting to see who was ID'd.

The family picture hurts a lot. I don't think it would have hit me the same if this happened in the 90's when I was in high school and going to their shows. Sad, yes but it's a different perspective. Now at 37, owning a home, been married and we have a beautiful 2 1/2 year old daughter that picture hurts much much more. I had a friends who toured with them, spoke to them in passing and know he was an all around good dude. If you went to shows in the 90's and you weren't floored the first time you heard crossbearere...

Even crazier was Friday I had randomly shot down to Charlton, MA and on the way back stopped in Worcester at the Armsbey Abbey. Bumped into two dudes I hadnt seen in over 12 years I used to go to shows with weekly and we had to discuss the death. It was almost as if there was a reason I went that day and bumped into a few old friends. Life works in weird ways. I hope my daugher and any future kids never have to deal with that.

Reast easy dude

Hydra Head Industries wrote:With the blessing of Caleb Scofield's family, Hydra Head is preparing to initiate a music based fundraising effort on their behalf. This will take shape in the form of a special reissue of Caleb's Zozobra albums on vinyl, an unreleased EP of Zozobra songs, and an Old Man Gloom Caleb tribute shirt. All proceeds will be donated to the Scofield family. This serves as our recognition of love and appreciation for Caleb, as well as a gift to all the people who've been positively impacted by his music. We are honored to help carry the torch of his creative voice into the future. The fundraiser will be launched later this week, details to follow. Thank you.
