SNL

I feel like the show needs its own thread. Felt that the show has been on a roll for the last year.

It’s being carried by one great cast member as usual (Kate McKinnon). My opinion.

Is it just me or is the Alec Baldwin-Trump schtick super played now? I agree with Taylor about Kate McKinnon, but Beck Bennett is good too. Sucks that Bobby left and they let Taran go a couple of seasons ago.

Yeah, I've never thought the Baldwin Trump was very funny, which is strange because Baldwin has been great on SNL for several years in other capacities.

Kate McKinnon is an all time great SNL csst member. Gonna be a sad day when she leaves. I like the cast right now but not really many standouts outside of Beck and sometimes Kyle

The Weekend Update guys kill it too

This is the first time in a while I've bothered to catch some SNL on a regular basis. It's pretty uneven, but the better skits have been hilarious. I agree with the Baldwin-Trump skits being a little played out now, but it still gets a laugh out of me. Honestly, I like Bennett's Putin even more. And yeah, Weekend Update has also been great.

Weekend update is their best for sure because of Trump. I feel like it's been really spot on for the last year and I like that they are 'pushing back' with their comedy.

Also, Cecily Strong and Kate Mckinnon are both great.

I have the first 3 seasons on DVD. Some of the funniest TV stuff of all time. Not really into anything after the OG lineup.

I think Cecily is real underappreciated. She's not otherworldly good like McKinnon, but she is a low end all-timer. Great "glue" cast member.

Also I love the dichotomy of always hating the current cast. Not saying that's this thread necessarily. Aidy is solid, as was Taran and Vanessa RIPIP to them.

That's what I'm saying.

I've been watching it live pretty regularly over the last year. I'll drive up to my mom's house if I'm not busy on the weekend and she will stay up with me to watch it. I do love that it is still a live show. The youtube clips do edit out some mishaps that can be seen live. I really liked last night's episode...though U2 is so fucking unbelievably awful.

Love it when Cecily Strong is having a thick week
Keenan being the longest running cast member of all time is insane
Leslie Jones is consistently and occasionally unintentionally hilarious
There's like three white dudes who all look exactly the same and it confuses me
Best episode in years was the Chapelle one

I think a lot of the current roster is great, I just think the writing/material is terrible at the moment outside of weekend update and some of the fake commercials and music videos. The actual skits are rough as fuck. The chance episode was truly awful, that fucking cold open with the trump kids and Julian Assange was sooooo fucking rough, I literally was uncomfortable with how unfunny it was. The only recent cold open I could think that was worth a damn was the mellisa mccarthy one earlier this year

why do NFL players smoke weed if there are rules? wrote:Is it just me or is the Alec Baldwin-Trump schtick super played now?

Between that and every late night talk show monologue lampooning the guy, it’s all played out. Don’t get it twisted, it’s fuck Trump now to eterniy, but there’s a reason the guy won in the first place. I think South Park went about the Trump “character” the right way, in that we don’t need to give the guy attention every time he opens his mouth.

Some folks like Timberlake, Gosling and Baldwin could be actual cast members, if this whole "being a successful actor and/or singer" thing didn't pan out.

Or, in Baldwin's case, what's stopping him from officially joining the cast? He could be like Colin Quin was back in the day and rarely even appear on camera.

SNL apologist and it's been a huge part of my life forever. I used to do Dana Carvey's GWB impression when I was like 4. It's been good for a while and I don't think they missed a step really after Sudekis, Wiig, etc... left a while back. I haven't watched any of this season at all though
