New song sounds good. Already pre-ordered the album and got a ticket for Milwaukee so I don't have to pay for Riot Fest.

Nice, what's the size of Milwaukee? The state theater maine show is a 1600 cap building. Small for them.

Got my Boston ticket. I'm pissed that it's in a damb hockey rink but I'll take it.

Got a ticket to see them at this big outdoor amphitheatre up here in September. Wanted to trip to Niagara Falls to see them on this run of shows, but no dice. Either way I'm stoked. The new jam is awesome.

Surprised the State did not sell out today. ~1600 cap theater. Really excited for this show:

my first real concert was the Songs for the Deaf tour (2nd leg, just missed Grohl doing drums, fuck!)

i havent enjoyed them since Era Vulgaris (and even then that album is a little weird) im gonna try to check this out this weekend and give it some proper time

...like clockwork really grew on me. It was def a departure, but I really liked it after awhile. Josh Homme knows how to write and find riffs.

most everything they've done is great. lullabies to paralyze is sort of boring though.

joey castillo was my favorite drummer of theirs

I really like that album up I Never Came. After that song it nosedives

This album is pretty poor. By far their worst release

Like Clockwork was their best album since Songs

For me their albums go

Rated>Songs>ST>Clockwork>Lullabies>Era>Villians

I do agree that Lullabies is awesome up to and including I Never Came. Sfter that, it really tanks

Era is very blah and I think has some poor production choices. Villians sounds like QOTSA trying to making a Cars record

I always liked Era. its fucking janky and weird. it was needed at the time when Lullabies was just a Songs wannabe (like we said, great tracks but eh)

I had low expectations with the new album since I didn't like the first single, but I thought it's a good album. The first single being the only song I didn't like. Not a big fan of the production on it. The record is pretty akin to Era, so if you didn't like that album, you probably won't like this one.

I gave the new record a couple listens earlier. I am really liking the synths scattered around on it. It's a grower for sure and needs a few spins.

I like it! I finally listened to it last night. The first song sounds like QOTSA doing Them Crooked Vultures and I like the bounciness of the first few songs. I need to listen more but so far track #4 might be a throwaway.

Villains is a real pop record (which was to be expected by the producer), but I also like it. I don't think it is bad, but also certainly not the best they've ever done. A lot of it reminded me of Bowie.

For sure. I was thinking yesterday that he's trying to accomplish a little Bowie-lite persona.

I think Head Like a Haunted House is my favorite song so far. I like the synth on Un-Reborn Again

Yeah, I agree Head Like a Haunted House is probably my favorite as well. It is really channeling Jack White, but it's rocking.

In my eyes, they haven't been the same since Nick was booted from the band. He's in a new band with Joey (ex-QOTSA / Danzig) and Todd Youth.

What's that called?

Also, I had a fantastic time at State theater show. To see a band of that caliber in a venue like that was surreal. I thought they killed it.

I also like Villains so maybe I'm biased on the show because I like the new songs live, it's not their best record...not as good as like clockwork either...but I think it's a pretty good record considering their full discography.

apparently owners of the state found out that over a third of the tickets for that were bought by 3rd party re-sellers within the first hour they went on sale. that's why they released more tickets at the door. i'm really pissed that i couldn't get tickets for that but glad to see how the state reacted to the situation.

The state is honestly my favorite venue in New England. Great sound and staff. Seating and standing depending on what you prefer. That rules that they did that. They were of course people offering half price tickets at the door from what friends bailed on.

oliveri and joey also had something with wino from st vitus/the obsessed (dunno what became of that project) AND they were both playing in bl'ast last i checked. busy boys.

my personal hierarchy: SFTD > vulgaris / lullabies > rated r > clockwork > self titled > TCV > villains

most people adore S/T but it drones on a bit much for me. era took forever to click but once it did, it shot up my list quick. villains is mostly whatever compared to the rest of their catalog but 'head like a haunted house' fucking rips.
