Heavier Alternative Bands

General discussion, shows, and everything else.

What are some cool heavier alternative bands?

I'm thinking along the lines of:
Quicksand
Handsome
HUM
Cave In (when they went alt rock)
Far

How do you define alternative here? Also, Far is a great band, but heavy?

Band on Relapse called Wrong. Had a great EP and a great full length. Helmet worship.

I was looking up Truly on Discogs just today, I can't believe what some of those prices are.

Heard most of the stuff that's been posted, but dig it all nonetheless. I haven't heard Calm, Truly or Chalkline, so thanks for those!

I'd throw in Helmet (kinda teeter between heavy alternative and metal, same with the Melvins) and Silverchair too

They're obviously emo, but they certainly have some heavier parts. I'll allow it. :smt023

No, but seriously, what's alternative? Because you posted a lot of post hardcore bands, so does alternative just stand for everything that isn't hardcore or metal?

Whoops, thought I replied to you earlier. Definitely using alternative loosely here, yeah. Most of the post hardcore that's been posted hits the spot, I was just trying avoid the more angular/experimental stuff.

I was going to throw out Ultraviolet, the new ex-Carrier band, but looks like their Bandcamp and website are gone. Not sure what that's about but I do love that EP they dropped a couple months ago. Very Young Widows-ish.
