What a strange series of events for the Rays.

Padres are so much lamer than the Marlins

Marlins have that based ass dolphin homerun fountain. The Padres have military uniforms and a fucking daycare. Imagine taking your kids to watch a baseball game and you leave them at daycare instead of making them watch the game and LEARN TO LOVE BASEBALL. FUCK THE PADRES.

The Dickerson and Hosmer moves show how bad teams stay bad. Everyone covering the Rays are saying they had multiple offers for Dickerson, but didn't move him because they didn't want "uncertainty" around camp. Then they trade Odorizzi. And I'm sure they'll trade Dickerson in the ten days, but they now have negative leverage.

These are the types of moves that seem like no-brainer bad deals to every single person but the people running the teams.

And, speaking of bad teams, the Alderson comments are all you need to know the Wilpons absolutely intend to call Tebow up at some point to sell tickets.

I've read that people are overestimating Cameron's influence on their front office.

Yup, and that they decided they were going all-in on Hosmer before Cameron was brought in.

Young, exciting Padres sign Hosmer. Angels sign Ohtani and have Pujols chasing 3,000 hits. Are the Dodgers the least interesting team in Southern California?

what an embarrassing take. Kersh-Wood-Bellinger- Seager-Turner and you still want to see Hosmer and "exciting young PADRES" insert blink's what the fuck gif

p.s.

I'm excited to watch KC field an almost entire team of AAA players.

Probable rotation:

Danny Duffy
Ian Kennedy
Nate Karns
Jason Hammel
Jakob Junis

I'm typically for new rules in a sport if it's drastically going to make it better. All of the time based rules implemented over the last few years are dumb as shit. What's five or ten minutes when it could hamper actual play ?

I personally do not care about pace of play beyond pitchers who take fucking forever to throw the next pitch.

Pitch like Mark Buerhle and none of this extra horseshit is necessary.

Yeah. If I'm AT a game I want it to be chill and meandering, but efficient. These rules sterilize some aspects.

6 mound visits per game is fine. There doesn't need to 6 visits so you can stall to warm up loogys in the 8th.

I think we all suspected or known Eric Hosmer was a dick but apparently Ned Yost was texting all the players during the off-season, especially when he was dying in the hospital, and he said Hosmer never once responded back.

A Royals fan posted that Hosmer Dennis System them and got a laugh.

Spoiler: show
Demonstrated Value - Helped us win ALCS back to back years, then a World Series after a 30 year drought
Engaged Physically - Not only slapping the butts of his teammates, but autographing stuff for fans, taking pics, being mobbed by 13 year olds at Justin Bieber concerts...
Nurture dependence - When just about everything else went wrong in 2017, he still dominated at the plate for us, and was the only thing consistently good last year.
Neglect Emotionally - well he didn't ever text Ned back so there's that
Inspire hope - We kept hearing that the Royals were offering him a big contract that inspired hope we could make 2018 not suck and that maybe just maybe Pappa Glass would open his wallet... until...
Separate Entirely - Nothing else needs to be said.
DID WE JUST GET FUCKIN DENNIS SYSTEM'ED?

I've never heard of a daycare at Petco... I don't believe that exists. The camo unis are lame, but SD is a huge military city so I understand the marketing side of it.

At some point you just become numb to the losing, even revel in it.

I think the general Padres fan is excited about Hosmer just because he's a recognizable name and a big FA signing that we have pretty much never had. The more interested fans realize it's an over payment for a slightly above average player that doesn't really fill a need. It just seems like ownership has had a hard on for the Royals' run of success and were determined to bring him in. Pushing Myers to the OF and taking away playing time from Franchy/Pirela/Renfroe is the biggest pain point for me.

I'm pretty sure Archer, Prado and Chen are the only players on Florida baseball teams making any kind of money. At least the Rays somehow got a better return for Souza than they did for Odorizzi.

Oh yeah, the Rays have to play in a division with the Red Sox and Yankees, and to a lesser extent the Jays. They're going to have a worse record than the Marlins. They're probably the worst team in baseball, especially if Honeywell doesn't pitch.

At this point I have no idea why they're hanging on to Colome. Why bother holding on to a top tier closer on a team this bad?

The Rays are gonna be, record-wise, the worst team in baseball for sure. They're close on paper with the Marlins but yeah, they have much stiffer competition in the East.

Don't forget about the O's, who despite never having a good pitching rotation, can and probably be in the top 3 as far as HR's.

At least Dan Duquett is still a better GM than Ruben Amaro was for the Phillies I guess.
