Haha! That’s one of the best! Been a while since I saw that, but I remember either one of, or both Vito and Bobby having this look. Like “You guys are dicks! But whatever!” After Paulie said that. I think they even shook their heads in disgust, then quickly shrugged it off.

Paulie's banter was always comedy relief, haha. Bobby always got shit for his weight too, there was the time he leaned on Tony's Suburban and Tony said "get off my truck before you flip it over" or something like that and as he's pulling off Bobby says "you should look in the mirror sometimes, you insensitive prick." :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Definitely a stand out moment lmao.

I love that before Vito was even a character, that actor played the dude in the donut shop when Chrissy shot the clerk in the foot.

Sil impersonating Michael Corleone was great too- "just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in!"

Also, he was the first one I ever heard say "schifosa" in a movie or show- had a friend that used to say it here and there, it kind of blew my mind haha.

It's an episode that's pretty early in the series, if I remember correctly. Jersey has a lot of goombas, they definitely operate more openly down there and make their presence felt. I remember being in a diner near Cherry Hill and about 20 dudes walked in and they might as well have had neon signs haha.

Tony was such a fuck about people’s weight, yet he was one of the fattest fucks on the show! :smt005

I remember my best friend and I discussing a theory that Tony’s character might die of a heart attack at the end of the series, as his weight was a focus for an episode or two, later in the series. It was also funny how Bobby beat the hell out of him, while appearing to be even more out of shape haha.

As far as other fat jokes, I loved when Christopher called Vito a parade float and threw his sandwich at him, after he overhead Vito and the guys laughing about the rumors that Adriana was blowing Tony when they had that accident. Even though Christopher didn’t actually hear the joke they were making, but came to the correct assumption that they were laughing about that.

“What are you laughing at you fuckin parade float!” “Ohhh I’m a captain now! You don’t talk to me like that!”

Tony was definitely a hypocrite about the weight thing, to say the least. Referring to people as "that fat fuck." :smt005 Tht is an interesting theory, he very well could have had a heart attack, the way he used to stuff his face constantly.

The Bobby vs Tony fight was classic, especially Tony talking to Carmella the next morning "if I hadn't slipped on that rug, I wouldn't have been the one laying on my back." You can tell that fight damaged his ego badly.

Always thought that scene was hilarious, goes to show every "job" is the same and wise guys gossip as much as any coworkers from whatever random job. One of the best moments from the Paulie vs Chris feud was the time Paulie was sniffing Adriana's panties and Chris see's him like "mothafucka" hahaha. Genius writing.

I love how phony Johnny Sack plays it off when he tells Tony ''He asks about you'' in regards to Carmine asking about Paulie, and Johnny Sack telling him that he may be able to switch families. Johnny Sack tells him ''He asks about you'' in such a bullshit tone haha.

The pilot was shot almost a whole year before the second episode was filmed. Tony is also considerably slimmer in the pilot episode, than he is, just one episode later. I think he had to put on 60 pounds for the role.

I remember reading that he saw a voice coach to perfect the Jersey accent, even though Gandolfini was actually a Jersey native, I guess they didn’t feel that his natural accent was strong enough to portray what they were going for with the character of Tony. It seemed to take until season two or the end of season one, to perfect the accent.

yeah, the amount of people you come across in NJ with an accent that heavy is pretty small. not to mention he had probably previously saw a voice coach to get rid of it before that role

Recently I had a debate with someone about the Adriana death. They called me a monster for repeatedly referring to Ade as a "snitch / rat". Were people bummed when she died? I was like sincerely happy. The fact that she was crying / crawling away made it that much more satisfying.

Never met anyone who was bummed about this. She definitely got what was coming.

And yet Tony formed a sort of give/take relationship with the male agent anyway. Should she have just said something to Chris/Tony right away after being propositioned? Sure but she made a mistake that isn't beyond most people. She always seemed to catch the dirty end as a generally innocent, supportive girlfriend. Chris was a rude, thoughtless little pig and didn't deserve the chances Tony gave him. I was fine with him being done away with but her death bummed me out.

Ralph, got exactly what he deserved and I was satisfied by the extremity of head smashing. I swear if I even saw that actor in real life I would punch him in the throat. Tony and these guys are all asshole criminals, I don't get why people villain-ized the rats but not anyone else?

It happens in the real life mafia and the show captured that world. One hit from 2009 where they took out the girlfriend as well:

The pilot is MUCH different than the rest of the show. The way it's filmed and the editing feels different, and especially the use of music for most scenes throughout the entire episode. Actually, based on the pilot i didn't think the show would be that great. Of course by the end of season 1 i realized it's probably the greatest series of all time (or at least tied with Deadwood)

I definitely agree. I forgot about the music usage. I always thought it was funny how ''I Wonder Why'' by Dion and the Belmonts was used in the intro to A Bronx Tale and in the first episode of The Sopranos. It would also later be used in the intro to Deuces Wild, which had a fairly similar plot to A Bronx Tale, as well as having the main character narrating the film.

Think he says it when they’re watching The Godfather before tony goes to Italy? He says it again when Chris and his friend rip off one of junior trucks filled with jackets in season 1 or 2
