New ZAO track (first new music since 2009)

General discussion, shows, and everything else.

Sounds sweet. I'm assuming it's just an overly compressed version that Decibel is hosting and that's why the quality isn't too good. Anyways, glad to report I got a copy of the 2 song EP on vinyl on pre-order today before they sold out.

I havent really cared for this band since Parade of Chaos. So whatever. But, this reminds me of a b-side around the S/T days. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

*edit, found it.

Nice to know a full length album is in the works too though I think it's going to be a minute before it's released.

I think within a day and a half or so.

Metalfaced_DOOM wrote:Oh my oh my

The 7" is going to have two songs (including this one). I believe the songs will also be on the full length but I could be wrong.

I didn't get into that album at all. A little too noisecore/grind for my liking. Dunno if that's the right way to classify it, but it's just a little too chaotic and abrasive sounding. #pu$sy

I've been a huge fan of this band for 14 years and the song rules but $10 for a two-song 7"? C'mon man. Glad everyone wiped out their stock in such a short time though... hoping that leads to more activity from them, especially a hometown show.

You pay nearly $10 for a sandwich at any restaurant that isn't fast food and that's obviously something that's gone after being consumed. I don't find $10 to be much at all for a limited edition release of a couple of tunes from a good band. Not to mention the package will have a little of that collector value to it.

But regardless of what I think on the price, here's the band addressing it:

Code: Select all
"Xenophobe"/"Fear Itself" will be available in a limited edition of 600 on clear vinyl packaged in hand-assembled, hand-numbered lithographed covers. Pre-orders are available here, and the single will be released through all other digital outlets on July 10. "Almost everyone in the band is a collector of some sort: toys, comics, records," says drummer Jeff Gretz. "Outside of music, that is our common language. We wanted to make something that wasn't just some digital printed generic cover with a few thousand floating around. We wanted to do something that was pretty limited and unique, and had a little bit of personal stamp/imperfections in it. We are fully aware that for the most part, music is free, but we are also aware that people like to collect things, and the less of something out there, the more special it is to have one. So, we are sort of courting that mentality; it's a little pricier to do things this way, but in the end, it's more fun for both sides of the transaction."

First track released from upcoming full length. A little different than I was expecting after hearing their last album (The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here) and the two songs from their even more recent EP.

Not to nitpick but Awake? came out after The Fear. Can't blame you for omitting it though, it's not their strongest material. The song kinda falls in line with that record a tiny bit but still definitely a unique approach for Zao which is awesome. I love those buried vocals in the beginning.
