It's so good.

Also, this song was in the ending credits of the Walking Dead game and was part of the saddest video game moment I've ever seen. I need to check more of her out. This song kills me though.

Alela Diane- Take Us Back

(I changed the version of the video because the other one contained spoilers for the game in case anyone wanted to play it :smt002 )

Tim Barry is my favourite punk turned folk artist. I peed beside him once. Dude is hung.

The Jason Isbell album was the album of '13 for me. Should have been for a lot more people. Nearly flawless record.

As far as alternative country goes, you can't go wrong with Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown. I tend to blur the lines between alt. country and bluegrass, so whatever: check out eastmountainsouth, Justin Townes Earle, The Lovell Sisters, The Wailin' Jennys, Larkin Poe, Dan Tyminski...

Chuck Ragan is up there, I'm not as crazy about him as a couple friends are, but he's got a really solid folk voice, and I never cared for HWM.

I always felt that country started out more punk than rock and roll ever did, and some people kept it that way. If you knew the shenanigans country artists got down to back in the day before it became a radio/ record cash-cow....

This is my favorite thread. You can't not love bands like Drive-By Truckers and Lucero. Incredible stuff. To all the guys talking about Southeastern - there was a good month where that was the only album I listened to.

Live Oak always gets me emotional:

I get to see Ben Nichols (of Lucero) doing his solo tour this Wednesday; I'm exponentially excited because that night is not only the opening night of the tour but also my birthday. Perfect night.

Sometime in the fall. I tried getting tickets, but like refill said, they're sold out. That said, Ben Nichols is playing at the Mercy Lounge on Wednesday, so you might want to check that out.

Son Volt is very good and is as close to Uncle Tupelo as you can find.
I love the Old 97s, their ability to write so many different styles is outstanding.
I have been listening to Jason Molina lately.

Yeah man, initially Atlanta was the closest in this tour then they randomly added a Nashville day late and it sold out so fast. We missed the tickets then randomly checked it like a week later one morning and two tickets were available so we grabbed them. I was about to pay $90 on stubhub because BN never comes to TN.

Anyone seen Heartworn Highways? It's a really good documentary from the late 70s. Has a lot of cool performances from Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle and a bunch of other "outlaw country" dudes from the time. Definitely worth seeing, if you can find it

I somehow stumbled upon him years ago when he released endless oklahoma sky, and have loved him ever since. Own everything by him. Only gets better and better. I usually suggest him to every I know trying to get into alt-county/folk.

Just so you know, John Moreland came out and played a few songs tonight at the Ben Nichols show. He and Cory Branan both. Absolutely incredible.

Also, the intensity with which Cory played this song last night was absolutely insane:
