I can't see Phoenix taking on another year of Chandler's deal, and giving up a lottery pick, especially when their main prerogative this off season is going to be keeping Bledsoe, which isn't going to come cheap. Unless they get rid of Dragic in the process I don't see it making a ton of sense.

They could definitely send Dragic. I don't think there's a Knicks fan around who would shit on the idea of NY taking on Dragic's contract.

Dragic + Okafor's expiring and a '14 pick would be a fantastic move for New York moving forward whether 'Melo resigns or not.

It would make more sense from both sides. Free's up more money for Bledsoe and you get a lock down two guard in the process. Chandler could probably teach Len a thing or two about defense for the future.

I don't think there is any team in the league that isn't a 100% title contender giving up a first in this draft. A team like Phoenix definitely isn't.

They have four, potentially five in the first round this summer. Indiana's pick is essentially 100% their's, they'll have their own and if the Timberwolves and Wizards continue to play well, they'll have two more. Some of those will be late firsts, so they're not going to have as much value.

I think a Dragic/Shumpert trade makes a lot of sense for both teams, I just really don't see a ton of sense in adding Chandler to a rebuilding team like Phoenix and really don't see a rebuilding team like Phoenix giving up a first.

Drafting players isn't the only way to build a team. If they're rebuilding, trading for the reigning DPOY and a top 5 defender at his position is a solid investment. Even if it's at the expense of one of your potentially five first round picks.

Again, those late first round picks aren't going to be as valuable. The odds of hitting it big with a player that deep in a draft are slim.

But New York's front office has shown they're dumb enough to almost anything, so I'm sure they'd risk trading for one anyway.

They aren't close enough at all to think about adding Chandler IMO. By the time that young team is relevant in the big scope of things Chandler will be a shell of himself, hell he might be heading that direction right now with all his injuries. Phoenix has been doing the right thing selling their vets like Gortat and Scola, adding Chandler would be a step back for their rebuild IMO.

But they made many of their moves before they knew what they had in Bledsoe. They went from a tanking candidate to a potential playoff team in a deep conference. Bledsoe is doing for Phoenix what Harden did for Houston last season.

They're playing out of their minds right now but they need to just continue what they're doing and grow as the young team they are which is why I stay where I am at if I'm them. You give up an asset in Dragic and a first for what? MAYBE a shot at getting stomped in the playoffs (and that's if Chandler's healthy)? They need players who can grow with Bledsoe, not a 12 year veteran who has injury concerns.

You give it up for guys crucial to a rebuild heading into the summer, where you've got the flexibility to acquire free agents and you've got trade bait available to fill out the roster. Plus you're conceivably bringing Len along during this time period. But agree to disagree.

OKC has ruined the concept of building a relevant team. Not everybody is going to draft three or four straight All Stars.

It's not even about building through the draft, it's just staying young. If they could get say Asik I'd say they should be all for it, it's just Chandler is already injury prone and getting up their in years, it just doesn't make sense to me. They need to get players for their team to grow with, not players that put unneeded pressure on them to win.

shithead wrote:I was thinking more along the lines of Phoenix trading one of their four million '14 first round picks and Okafor's expirer for Chandler + Shumpert. The Suns aren't tanking and getting Chandler + Shump without abandoning multiple picks is a great deal, in my opinion. Especially if they're able to land one impact player with the shit ton of picks they've got this summer. Resign Bledsoe and the Suns have a stellar core.

New York gets a pick in a deep draft and they only have to pay Okafor for the remainder of the season, as opposed to giving Chandler $14.5 million next season. Then, if they move Bargnani or Amar'e this summer, the Knicks financial situation wouldn't be as fucked heading into next season.

This would require forward thinking from the Knicks front office, and they have no Earthly idea what that is. Next time you've got a trade in your head and think, "well, the Knicks would be smart to..." just save yourself the keystrokes because it will never, ever happen while Dolan is alive.

Also, I'm going to go hang myself. The Knicks, Sabres and Bills are a combined 13-41. :smt086

Given that you're capable of discussing the issue and had an interest to the point of suggesting specific trades, yeah you seem just sour to resort to trolling and disengaging rather than making any point.

I mean, absurd or not, "2 first round picks" is telling of what Morey thinks of the current players on market and the Rockets roster if nothing else.

Not at all. Pretty much every GM is on the "draft picks are gold" bandwagon (and that alone inflates their worth), coupled with new CBA structure and that there isn't enough NBA talent to even fill rounds every year, one high first rounder is a lot to ask for but two years is going to severely hinder any teams roster building.

LBJ and Durant may be worth 3 firsts, but I'd be hard pressed to name someone worth 2+change. Maybe Chris Paul or Paul George?

I think just setting the asking price at that is interesting though. It deters nickel/dime offers and imo infers a confidence about the current roster while declaring an intent to bolster future seasons.
