THE OFFICIAL BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU THREAD V.3

General discussion, shows, and everything else.

Postby disconnecting v.2 » Thu Dec 10, 2009 11:22 pm

TO ANYONE BEGINNING TO POST IN THIS THREAD:

Post your Belt, Team and Instructor

It helps us get to know each other and it's interesting to reference.

Keep all your bullshit non-BJJ related stuff out of the thread. For a reference of what is BS and what is not compare posts from poster Actually John Joseph to pretty much anyone else and do the opposite.

Torn ACL/Meniscus...been out since June 2nd (Day I tore my shit up)...I've done a couple practices here and there but my knee just gives out whenever i turn it on...had to quit my job as a wrestling instructor. (I HAD A FUCKING JOB AS A WRESTLING INSTRUCTOR. WHAT BETTER JOB IS THERE?) Seen 4 doctors, all of them told me it was a subluxating patella. I said "That's not it" and they sat there and said "You know...I've been studying the human body for quite some blah blah.." Finally went to a 5th. He said the pop I heard at the time was my ACL tearing. My knee has been giving out whenever I pivot since then. He thinks I have meniscus damage due to that. MRI wednesday to confirm how abd meniscus damage is. He did a pivotal shift test on my knee which confirmed a torn ACL. Surgery late january. Hamstring graft. So bummed, yet so relieved. I also just bought 6 months over at David Terrell's Fight Academy..now I gotta tell them I need to wait a year. FML.

Sorry, I need to vent.

Other people from purple Mundials worth watching:

David Bass: strong triangle game
Adam Piccilotti: great wrestler
Lucas Rocha: everything
Newton Casimero: everything
Michael Langhi: I don't fully grasp what this guy is doing. But I don't think his opponents do either, which is how he's getting the back/winning
Greg Souders: Got tooled by Rocha but looked great against everyone else.

Did a private with Gregor a few weeks ago. Spent the entire hour working on escapes from side control (bottom). It was extremely helpful, and I have already noticed steady improvement.

Also, watching John Danaher roll is mind-blowing. Dude is on a whole new level.

well we dont meet when classes are going on. we meet usually early in the day and do our thing. one of the main guys that owns the gym is a good friend so i can go whenever i want and do my thing. it helps that we started learning rubber guard together as well.

I wouldn't consider Gregor a giant. I believe he competes at 170. He is, however, extremely strong, and rolling with him leaves you bewildered. He is easily one of the best instructors I have had.

Rolles on the other hand, is a giant.

Any schools you guys recommend in the South Bay/LA area?
I know I got the Gracie Academy HQ in Torrance but $160/month is too expensive.

People still push rubber guard as a good thing? Weird.

And what else have Bravo done besides win once? Has he even competed in top level competitions since he beat Royler?

Kodenkan started in Hawaii based on traditional Japanese Jiu-jitsu and Judo. We grapple a lot but do a lot of standing submissions and strikes.

My sensei, I and some classmates from my dojo went to a tournament here in Jacksonville, Florida. I just wanted to watch the guys in my class and maybe stick around to see the black belts, mostly because of this rumor going around about this BJJ sensei, who shares a dojo at the beaches with us. One of his former students was going to confront about all this stuff that was apparently said after he left and opened up an MMA training school down the street. There was a lot of talk going around from school to school about it... Anyways, after hours of watching the BJJ instuctors screaming at the refs with veins popping out of their necks, I left... but I heard all the bullshit about it. They didn't actually fight, but just created a huge scene screaming at each other after the ex-student lost to one of his former teacher's BJJ guys. He pushed the instructor because he was celebrating a little too hard. He was probably kind of embarrassed since the fight had so much emotion and planning behind it.

I dunno about you guys but it seems that most people involved with anysort of mixed martial arts hate Joe Rogan...I love the dude. He has experience with multiple forms of martial arts, smokes pot, takes psychadelics, extremely funny and isn't afraid to state his own opinion.
+ he exposed carlos menstealia so I love him alot more for that
in short, man crush on the rogan
When I tore my ACL, bout a week after I went down to my friends house and we dropped some acid so I would forget about the pain (I threw away the prescribed vicodin, too scared of becoming addicted to them) and we heard Click, Click Boom (by Saliva) and we both geniunely though it was Joe Rogan singing.
Found out it was by saliva and cried...
Anyways, MRI tomorrow. Wish me luck

Kayron Gracie vs Chip Coffey

There's a point where they mutually agree to just kind of stop and take a couple breaths.
Chip even blows his nose on the mat...then they slap hands and restart.

what.
