Skateboarding

General discussion, shows, and everything else.

The era when Muska was big was really weird. I remember skate mags playing up 'hesh vs. fresh' and I was too much of a PUNK RAWKER to fuck with fresh shit. Muska's ghetto thugsta deck was cool though.

That episode was really weird and cool
I've never given a shit about muska so I didn't really know much about him. I realize his impact on skating so I'm not gonna hate on him but I still don't care about him whatsoever. But I did feel bad for him near the end when he got the disc injury that threatened his skating. I fear stuff like that all the time as I get older and it was cool to see him get a trick at the end

Agreed, and he honestly seems like a great dude. I've had back and knee problems most of my life so I empathize with the injury aspect. I just started skating again but it's really the only time I feel happy and at peace. I don't know what I'd do if I had to quit. I've been wrecking myself trying dorky shit in parking lots lately, so if I have to end it on an injury I hope it's at least something big and burly.

Longboarding (surfing) exists for this very reason.

Yeah, it's definitely something I want to try. I live about an hour from the coast but the water is cold as fuck here so I'm a little apprehensive.

Yeah. I feel you on water temperature. I grew up surfing in Virginia and I could only bare going out when the water warmed up in the summer/early fall, so I couldn't even comprehend surfing the Pacific Northwest without the thickest of wetsuits.

I know a few people who do it, and they say you still get major brainfreeze even with a super thick suit and a hood. Our water temps are in the 50s-low 60s year round with all kinds of shit like huge floating logs, crazy currents, gale-force winds, etc but surfing is actually pretty popular here.

I really like all those dudes, but I thought the video was a little underwhelming, especially with all the hype and run up to it. Hockey II was an instant classic.

Most of the dudes look like they like to smell their own farts and the face zoom-in on the roll up and back to board before the trick is getting old.

this, especially on IG clips is annoying as hell. slow-mo before the trick and during the roll away is so corny too.

c o r n y

I'm glad he's doing well. legitimately very happy for him.

but nah get someone who can actually huck, not some feel good story old idiot. Bring Apples out for a spin. I'm not watching KOTR to see them give the nod to someone who's corny.

The element team is kind of stacked right now. Westgate, Evan, Greyson Fletcher, mason silva, madars apse, jarne, phil zwijsen. Some absolute rippers.

Element always has an insane team that is overshadowed by the personality engulfing flame that is the Element brand. They are like the inverse of Skate Mental (a company who can make amazing skateboarders with zero personality seem interesting vs a company who can make amazing skateboarders with lots of personality seem super boring)

since the Underworld Element days until about 2001-ish, Element always had a sick team. then within a year Dan Wolfe stopped doing their videos, most of the team left, and it seemed like overnight it became the quintessential mall company. it's cool they have so many rippers on their team now, i guess, but i'd love to see those dudes elsewhere.

I'm not here to rag on a dude for a problem with the sauce, especially after losing his best friend. I just think him on KOTR would be kitschy and I'd rather see someone else.

Sorry if I made anyone bummed, lol.

i think something as cheesy and fun as KOTR is a good fit for him especially since he's skating again. he's definitely a corny guy but his skate career is nothing short of incredible.

No, you're right, it would be a bit much.
Also it probably wouldn't be the best for him to be around all the drinking...

Can definitely see Bam being a guest for KOTR, especially with Element's involvement this time. Neen was sober when Deathwish went recently, right?

Real is going to be insane on this.

Jerry Hsu and Elijah Berle both off Chocolate. Not really a secret that Elijah's in the FA camp now, more interested in what Jerry is doing now. I know he's got his Sci-Fi Fantasy thing, but i doubt he's turning it into a board brand.
